A new Children’s Laureate.

I was lucky enough to be invited to the announcement for the new Children’s Laureate and am thrilled that the role has been accepted by children’s illustrator and writer Chris Riddell. Chris is an outspoken and dedicated supporter not only of children’s books, but also of school libraries and librarians and he used his acceptance speech to sing their praises.

I planned to write a piece about the new Laureate and those authors who had previously acted in this capacity, but I think instead I will share Chris Riddell’s illustrations of them.

I don’t think these need captions!

Who are you taking over from? The fabulous Malorie Blackman of course!

And what are your plans for the next couple of years?

Superb, that’ll do nicely.

Congratulations Chris, well deserved!
